Training for people who hate training

Equity As A Technical Skill (EATS) is QuakeLab's answer to traditional DEI sessions. EATS focuses on building on the technical skill and expertise of your teams by training them to imbed equity into the very details of their day-to-day work. These short and sweet sessions are built to get participants on the other side with a plan to execute based in the expertise they have, and the confidence to make tangible impact.

Whats the story?

For years, we've been telling you not to do unconscious bias training, or really most DEI trainings, because they can cause a lot of harm. We knew it was a big ask because training has been a low-cost, quick-return activity.

But, we've heard your requests.

We wanted to take our time building a way for you to figure out how to do make impact directly through the work you do as comms teams, accountants, project managers, M&E experts, etc.

Here's where Equity As A Technical Skill come in...

What is Equity As A Technical Skill

As a methodology, Equity As A Technical Skill is the intention and data driven approach to embedding equity into every stage of building and implementation. EATS focuses on supporting you in equity, justice and accessibility into the work you do. Rather than focus on building knowledge of all the inequities that exist and leaving you feeling defeated and deflated, EATS helps you identify the equity challenges in your functional role, identify ways to respond to these inequities, and leaves you with an action plan for your specific work and role.

Sprints are a time-constrained process focused on addressing critical challenges through design, prototyping, and testing ideas. We leverage principles of design sprints to build a five-hour session that gets you focused on specific, actionable steps.

During the EATS session you'll:

  1. Clarify the outcomes of your specific role

  2. Identify the barriers to access and participation of these outcomes

  3. Design a plan to reduce and/or eliminate these identified barriers

  4. Create a plan to codify these practices into your processes

We focus on running EATS sessions with functional teams (or departments), so we can get down to the details and make some real change.

How much does it cost?

One five-hour session with a functional team of up to 10 people starts at CAD 11,600. This will include:

  • A customized EATS session

  • In person or virtual session

  • One or two QuakeLab facilitators
